Professional athletes' incomes continued to grow in 2025, with staggering amounts reflecting not only performance in sports but also the power of sponsorships.
However, there are big differences between sports, with football, boxing and basketball dominating the list.
Below are eight athletes who were each paid the most in their respective sports.
8. Carlos Alcaraz (Tennis) – 48.97 million euros
The Spanish tennis player earned 48.97 million euros, of which 18.47 million came from sports prizes and 30.5 million from sponsorships.

7. Patrick Mahomes (American Football) – €68 million
The Kansas City Chiefs star earned 68 million euros, with 42.5 million from salary and 25.5 million from endorsements.

6. Lewis Hamilton (Formula 1) – 84.67 million euros
The British driver earned 84.67 million euros, including 59.27 million from his contract with Ferrari and 25.4 million from sponsorships.

5. Jon Rahm (Golf) – 85.26 million euros
The Spanish golfer earned 71.72 million from tournaments and 13.55 million from sponsorship deals.

4. LeBron James (Basketball) – 108.97 million euros
The LA Lakers legend earned $41 million from the contract and $67.74 million from sponsorships.

3. Juan Soto (Baseball) – 109.4 million euros
The Dominican player for the New York Mets earned 103.47 million from the contract and 5.93 million from sponsorships.

2. Canelo Alvarez (Boxing) – 116 million euros
The Mexican boxer earned 105.85 million from his two fights and 10.15 million from sponsorships.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Football) – 220 million euros
The Portuguese striker was named the highest-paid athlete in the world with 220 million euros, 170 million from his contract with Al Nassr and 50 million from advertising.
