Exactly at 22:00 PM, when the international oil exchange closes, the trend in fuel prices for the next day in Kosovo is determined.

And while it is expected how prices will move after this moment, citizens in Kosovo are facing current prices, which according to them have increased rapidly and remain high in relation to their incomes.

According to the Kosovo Oilmen's Association, currently a liter of diesel in the Kosovo market is being sold from 1 euro and 39 cents to 1 euro and 60 cents, while gasoline from 1 euro and 27 cents to 1 euro and 39 cents, KosovaPress reports.

The president of this association, Fadil Berjani, says that despite recent movements, Kosovo citizens are being supplied with prices among the lowest in the region, with the exception of North Macedonia, which has the lowest excise tax on fuel.

Berjani emphasizes that only North Macedonia has lower prices, but according to him, this is due to the lower excise tax.

"Today, the prices of petroleum products in the Kosovo market are approximately 1 liter of diesel 1.39 cents to 1.60 cents. Gasoline 1.27 cents to 1 euro and 39, plus, minus here exists, but I can freely say that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo are being supplied with the cheapest prices in the region, except for North Macedonia. But, Macedonia has the lowest excise tax 22 cents. Today in Macedonia 1.34 a liter of diesel, I would add another 22 cents, 1.65", says Berjani.

He added that the price increase is related to global developments, especially after the US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

"The increase in oil derivatives is the cause of the war in Iran. The global situation that is here is the cause of this... President Trump decides what prices will be and what the situation will be like with oil derivatives throughout the globe. This crisis is worldwide... At the moment there is a downward trend, it is not correct, the stock market closes at 22:00, then we know at 22:00 what prices we will have for tomorrow", underlines Berjani.

Berjani has also criticized price increases in markets and other services, saying that they are often linked to the price of oil even when the latter is falling.

While he appeals to bus companies not to increase ticket prices, as he says, fuel prices will fall.

"Always, markets, large supermarkets are linked to oil, supposedly oil has increased and prices have increased. I appeal and believe that they too should understand that oil is falling, oil is falling, but prices in markets are not falling, this is a very big problem... Also, I believe that they have a reason for increasing bus tickets, but don't rush, because the trend is downward, I believe that fuel prices will come to the right level", says Berjani.

Meanwhile, citizens express concern about the level of prices, saying that they are high compared to incomes in Kosovo.

Citizen Edan Bregubuca says that prices should be reduced, as according to him they are unaffordable for many families.

He even says that some car trips had to be avoided.

"Prices need to come down, with the opportunities we have in Kosovo, with salaries being a little too high. Everything that is hyped is bad for us... I think so (it was a hasty move to increase prices), here it's a bit of propaganda that they couldn't wait for prices to increase a little. Kerry is also a need... We haven't cried without avoiding any moves we've made that were unnecessary because of the price," he says.

Citizen Elmi Hamiti also says that the price increase has happened very quickly.

"Prices have gone up a lot. But what can we do... They are too high... They have gone up too fast... Trump has declared, but let's see if these people here are listening... and the conditions here," he says.

Meanwhile, citizen Fatmir Zogiani raised concerns about price differences between different gas stations, saying that in some cases prices are being abused.

"The worst thing is that the price differs, while they are supplied in the same place. This one has it cheaper, why is this one able to sell it cheaper... I don't know what controls they have... It's crazy to play with the people in this crisis... Normally (there should have been punitive measures later) they have that ceiling of 12 cents profit, they don't have more profit, they have done as much as they want... There has been no price increase either in Italy or Switzerland, very strong countries, here where the Port of Durres is", says Zogiani.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade has announced that institutions are monitoring the fuel market to prevent any unfair trade practices and to protect consumers. According to them, the Central Inspectorate for Market Supervision, which operates within the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, announces that it is conducting intensive supervision in the fuel market for the implementation of the decision on temporary price regulation.

Also, the Central Inspectorate of Market Surveillance, in cooperation with the Kosovo Tax Administration, is analyzing data regarding import prices and prices displayed to consumers in the domestic market.

We recall that on March 4, 2026, the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation issued a decision to set ceiling prices for petroleum products. This decision, according to the Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, came after the sudden increase in oil prices as a result of the situation in the Middle East.

The announcement also states that the maximum trade margin allowed in wholesale sales is up to 2 eurocents per liter, while in retail sales, up to 12 eurocents per liter.

Meanwhile, oil prices in the world fell on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump warned Iran not to block a shipping route essential to global energy supplies.

"If Iran does anything to stop the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, it will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than it has been hit so far," Trump warned on social media.

In morning trade in Asia, Brent crude oil was 6.5% lower at $92.46 and Nymex Light Sweet fell 7% to $88.15.

Oil had reached almost $120 a barrel on Monday on fears that the US-Israeli war with Iran would cause long-term disruptions to supplies from the Middle East, but fell after Trump suggested the war could end soon.
