WhatsApp introduces new chat privacy protections

WhatsApp has officially launched Advanced Chat Privacy, a "new layer of privacy protection" for 1-on-1 conversations as well as group chats.

Advanced chat privacy allows users to prevent others from sharing the content of their conversations outside of WhatsApp, in cases where additional privacy is required, reports Telegraph.

When a user enables this option, it prevents others from exporting conversations, automatically downloading content to their phones, and using messages for AI functions.

"This way, everyone in the conversation will be more confident that no one can use the content outside the conversation," WhatsApp states, but there is still the option to screenshot.

WhatsApp believes this feature will be most useful "in groups where everyone doesn't know each other very well, and the content is of a sensitive nature, such as discussing health challenges in a support group or organizing a community around something that's important to users."

To activate this option, you need to tap the chat name and then select Advanced Chat Privacy.

WhatsApp says this is just the first version of the feature, and plans to improve it in the future to offer even greater protection. /Telegraph/
