What will happen to citizens who have not legalized their properties in Presheva?

Even though on February 8 of this year, the application for property legalization was completed in the Municipality of Preševo, citizens who have not yet registered their properties, due to being far from the territory of Serbia or other personal reasons, have one year to complete it.
Meanwhile, by February 8, when the application period in the Municipality of Presheva ended, over 4 thousand people had applied.
This was announced to KosovaPress by the director of urbanization in the Municipality of Presheva, Ardian Aliu, who said that there was no pressure from the Serbian Government to legalize the properties of Albanians in this municipality.
"According to our statistics, over 4 thousand people in the municipality of Presheva have applied for property registration. 3:20 There was no pressure and this is good and a benefit for the citizens of the municipality to register their property, because the buildings that were built without a permit, did not have a use permit or similar and were not able to buy and sell houses, or if citizens needed to enter into a mortgage, they did not have the right, while with this law they now enjoy all the rights and can sell it," said Aliu.
Aliu announced that citizens who were not within the territory of Serbia at the time of application have up to one year to legalize their properties.
Meanwhile, Aliu had no information from the Serbian Government regarding measures against those who do not legalize them, since they had not been notified.
"All those people who have not been able to register their property due to illness or being abroad, the legal deadline is somewhere within a year. Everyone can register their properties. The legislator has foreseen that citizens who, for their own reasons, have not been able to be present on the territory of Serbia, they can apply. We have cases even from February 8 when the regular deadline for registering property closed, we have some cases that have come and we have enabled this right. We do not know, we do not have information because the Government of Serbia has not announced any measures against persons who do not register their property," he added.
On December 8, 2025, the Serbian Government issued a decision that all illegally constructed buildings can apply for and register their property. This deadline has been extended until February 8, 2026. /KP/
