What's happening in California? Fire breaks out again, authorities urge immediate evacuation

More than 30,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes north of Los Angeles after a new wildfire broke out in California.

The latest fire – dubbed Hughes – started Wednesday morning near Castaic Lake, about 64 miles (XNUMX kilometers) away from the Eaton and Palisades fires that devastated parts of LA earlier this month.

It is known that within a few hours, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) announced that 9,400 hectares had burned.

They added that the fire is under control.

While Los Angeles County officials said at a press conference that more than 31,000 people had been asked to evacuate due to "threats to life."

But another 25.000 are still in areas facing evacuation warnings, it writes. sky news, the Telegraph reports.

It is reported that planes and helicopters have been seen over the mountains trying to put out the fire and trying to stop it from approaching Interstate 5.

"There was red fire coming from below. It was pretty scary. It looked like a smoke bomb went off," said one of the drivers passing by.

Otherwise, low humidity and strong winds have fueled the spread of fires in Southern California, which has not seen significant rainfall for nine months.

The ongoing eruptions have left officials worried that the fires could breach their control lines.

At least 27 people have died since the two fires began on January 7.

According to Cal Fire, the Palisades Fire has destroyed thousands of homes and burned 23,713 acres, and is still only 68% contained.

The Eaton Fire broke out just hours later, spreading to 14,021 acres and destroying more than 10,000 homes and businesses. It is currently 91% contained.

And firefighters are also dealing with two fires – Lilac and Center – in San Diego, near the border with Mexico.

Although smaller than the fires in Los Angeles, evacuation orders were issued Tuesday for the Lilac Fire, which broke out near the old 395 Freeway. /Telegraph/
