The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo has announced that due to rainfall and flooding, water quality monitoring has been intensified, thus, the NIPHK has added that samples have been taken for physico-chemical and microbiological analysis from public water supply systems.

The NIPHK press release also reports on the situation in the regions of the country, stating that the water treatment plants in Shkabaj and Bivolak are out of operation due to high turbidity, while those in Badoc and Batllava are operating normally, and the water quality is within standards.


In addition to the Pristina region, the National Institute of Public Health also reports on the situation in other regions.

As a result of increased precipitation in recent days, NIPHK in cooperation with the Regional Public Health Centers has intensified monitoring of drinking water quality throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.

During this period, samples were taken for physico-chemical and microbiological analysis from public water supply systems.

Drinking water situation on January 9, 2026

Prishtina region

The water treatment plants in Shkabaj and Bivolak are out of operation due to high turbidity.

The water plants in Badoc and Batllava are operating normally, the water quality is within standards.

Prizren region

The water source from "40 wells" in the city of Prizren is released only for technical needs. Other sources, such as Cvilen and Soz, the water is within standards.

In Suhareka and Dragash, the water is within standards.

In Malisheva, water is used only for technical needs.

Gjilan region

In the city of Gjilan, the water is within standards.

In Kamenica, Viti and the villages of Makresh, Ropotovo, Ranillug and Berivojcë, turbidity values ​​are increased and the water is not recommended for drinking.

Peja region

In the cities of Peja and Istog, the water is within standards.

The Deçan, Junik, Klina water supply is for technical use only.

Mbivada and Vrella with turbidity, the water is used only for technical needs.

The source of Jarina, water is used only for technical needs

Ferizaj region

The water is drinkable – within standards.

Gjakova region

The water supply from the Gjakova WTP network is safe for drinking.

Hoqa e Madhe, Opterusha, Zaqishta increased turbidity values, the water is not drinkable.

Mitrovica region

Water is used only for technical needs.

NIPHK, in coordination with the Regional Public Health Centers and Regional Water Supply Companies, continues with increased monitoring of drinking water quality in order to protect the health of the population.
