Vjosa Osmani asks political parties for names for new members of the CEC

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osman, has asked political parties to propose names for new members to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Bekim Kupina, advisor to the president, confirmed that Osmani has already sent a letter to the parliamentary groups that are registered in the Kosovo Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Election Law obliges the president to request proposals for members of the CEC from parliamentary groups no later than 30 days after the certification of the parliamentary elections.

"The President of the Republic of Kosovo, based on the results of the general elections, no later than 30 days after the certification of the elections for the Assembly, requests parliamentary groups/political entities to propose in writing candidates for members of the CEC," it states in paragraph 6 - article 61.

This article states that "parliamentary groups/political entities shall submit their proposals within 7 days and the appointment by the president shall be made within 5 days of submitting the proposals."

The mandate of the CEC members is linked to the mandate of the electoral cycle and in principle begins no later than 60 days after the certification of the results. The beginning of the mandate implies the end of the previous mandate.

We recall that the CEC certified the results of the February 27 elections on March 9. /Telegrafi/
