An Albanian group involved in drug trafficking has been busted by Italian authorities.

The media writes that the leader of this organization was an Albanian who was arrested in Barcelona.

According to sources, the investigation into the group began after intercepted conversations on the SkyECC platform.

All conversations were in Albanian and Italian authorities managed to uncover the group's activity in this way, which is related to at least 20 shipments of cocaine and hashish from the Netherlands in 2020 alone.

According to the same sources, only when the drugs were being smuggled onto the streets of Bologna, the group's profits reached up to 5 million euros.

The gang boss, who lived in Italy before moving to Spain, managed the negotiations and shipments of narcotics together with his nephew. The latter, a resident of Italy. When the uncle fled to Spain, the nephew took over the "reins" of the group.

He was also arrested by the police. According to authorities, three other Albanians and a Tunisian were also arrested.

Italian authorities have concluded that Albanians were sending money home to invest there. This was revealed through the analysis of intercepted messages.
