US plans to strengthen military infrastructure in Albania and Kosovo

The United States continues to strengthen its military presence in Southeast Europe, announcing a five-year contract covering construction and maintenance projects in Albania, Kosovo, and Bulgaria.
This investment, led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, aims to provide advanced infrastructure for U.S. troops and in the region, reflecting the continued commitment to confronting geostrategic and geopolitical challenges.
A clear indication of the US's continued commitment to strengthening its military and infrastructure presence in this part of the continent is the announcement of a new US Army Corps of Engineers contract for support in Europe, which includes Albania, Kosovo and Bulgaria.
According to an official announcement, a five-year agreement is planned, which includes construction and maintenance projects at the bases where American troops operate. Through this, the aim is to support the presence of American forces and other activities of US agencies in the region, including the Republic of Kosovo.
Such a decision by the Ministry of Defense is seen as a contribution to security throughout the region.
"We welcome any investment or increase in American forces in Kosovo, as we have previously mentioned, the US is our strategic partner, and not only investing in military infrastructure in Southeast Europe but also establishing a permanent base in Kosovo would contribute to the security not only of Kosovo but also of the entire Western Balkans," said Liridona Gashi, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Defense.
Regarding this, the director of the "OCTOPUS" Institute, Arben Fetoshi, says that this is a reconfirmation of the strong US military commitment in Kosovo and the region.
"This is extraordinary news in the context of those previous fears and panics about the eventual withdrawal of American troops and the shift of American attention from Kosovo. The US today reconfirms that the concentration of American troops is large for geostrategic reasons and for ongoing reasons of the threat that Russia poses to this part of Europe," said Fetoshi.
Former Kosovo Security Force soldiers link the continued US presence in this part of Europe to preventing Russian influence in the Western Balkans.
"The geographical position is a geostrategic interest of the US and NATO. Not allowing Russian influence is extremely vital for both the US and Brussels and in this regard we are fortunate to be in this position and in this I come with the geostrategic and geopolitical interests of America, for that reason we are also a priority in the advancement of the armed forces in the advancement of Kosovo in general", said Kadri Kastrati, former commander of the KSF
Fetoshi and Kastrati emphasized that US engagement in the region is seen as essential for a more secure and stable future in the Balkans. /RTK/
