The United States of America has donated a US-made Rapiscan mobile scanner to Kosovo, worth $3 million, to strengthen border security.

The US Embassy in Kosovo has announced that combating illegal trafficking and preventing the spread of counterfeit goods makes American and Kosovar businesses stronger and more competitive.

The inauguration ceremony of the mobile scanner, an investment in strengthening customs controls and increasing border security, was held at the border crossing in Merdare.

Rapiscan Scanners are advanced security control systems, manufactured by the American company Rapiscan Systems, which specializes in detection technology.

They are widely used at border and customs points, ports and airports, government and military facilities, and critical infrastructure.

Depending on the model, Rapiscan scanners can detect weapons and explosive devices; drugs and contraband; counterfeit or undeclared goods, and objects hidden in vehicles, containers, or luggage.

Most Rapiscan scanners use X-ray technology (including high-energy X-rays for large loads) and advanced analysis software, which identifies shapes, densities and materials.
