US President Donald Trump reveals he is a supporter of the Premier League giant

US President Donald Trump once hinted at the Premier League club he 'supports' in an interview with Piers Morgan.

The 78-year-old was inaugurated on Monday, January 20, as president, in a ceremony in the rotunda of the United States Capitol in the nation's capital, Washington, DC.

It was the 60th event of its kind and the second involving Trump, who is now beginning his second term as US president.

Speaking to journalist and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan in January 2018, the topic of football came up in an interview on ITV.

During the interview, Trump revealed how his son Barron "loves" the sport before Morgan questioned whether he was an Arsenal fan as he revealed a Gunners shirt with 'Trump 45' emblazoned on the back.

"That's great, I have a son who loves this sport," Trump declared. "And he loves Arsenal, right?" Morgan asked.

“Are you an Arsenal fan too?” the British journalist added. “Not particularly, no,” Trump replied.

A disappointed Morgan then joked that Trump had “killed his dream.” However, no one expected the New Yorker to hint at his support for one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals.

"I have a friend who owns Manchester United," the American president said.

The "friend" Trump was referring to was Edward Glazer, the son of Malcolm Glazer, who holds a majority stake in United after his father bought the club for $5.4 billion in 2005.

In 2023, Edward and his five siblings sold 25 percent of the club's 68 percent stake to another billionaire, Jim Ratcliffe. /Telegraph/
