UK's Blair 'distances' from Trump's $1 billion tariff on Gaza Peace Board

Tony Blair, the former UK prime minister who has been appointed to Donald Trump's Peace Council executive panel, distanced himself from the president's demand that countries pay $1 billion for permanent membership.
This is what foreign media reports, according to which Blair refused to support the request for funds.
And this is being seen as a further sign that the details of the peace board are provoking opposition from US allies and partners to Trump's project.
As it is further assessed, some countries are likely to refuse to join the Board as a result of Trump's terms, people familiar with the matter said.
Others may agree in principle to join the Peace Board but refuse to pay the fee for permanent membership, they added.
They would then seek to negotiate it or walk away from the board if Trump insisted on the idea.
Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Sunday that he had agreed in principle to join the board, but not on the payments.
"Regarding the specifics of the Peace Board, we have not reviewed all the details of the structure, how it will function, what funding it is for, etc. And so we will review them in the coming days," he said. /Telegrafi/
