The Russia-based SovEko think tank has announced that for the first time, Turkey will import 30 tons of high-protein wheat from Russia using Russian rubles.

About 17 thousand Russian rubles or about 260 dollars per ton of wheat is expected to be paid in Russian rubles.

SovEko emphasized that trade using national currencies is expected to reduce losses caused by currency conversion.

President Erdogan previously warned that Turkey would increase the use of national currencies in its trade with major trading partners such as Russia, and Vladimir Putin, for his part, has supported this, saying that the use of the national currency in bilateral trade will to minimize the negative impact of external factors, writes AA.

In a September 17 meeting between the two leaders, Putin said that Turkish-Russian relations are "developing positively."

Recall that inflation in Turkey rose near the highest level since President Recep Tayyip Erdogan came to power 15 years ago, prompting calls for higher interest rates to rein in prices. /Telegraph/
