Turkey passed a law on the protection of personal data, published today in the Official Gazette, a much-discussed issue following the large-scale illegal disclosure of personal data involving 50 million Turkish citizens.
Law No. 6698 on the protection of personal data was published today in the Turkish Official Gazette, after it was voted by the Parliament and approved by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
This law mainly expands the scope of personal data to Union membership, religious belief as well as political beliefs. The data cannot be accessed without the express consent of the person concerned.
