Trump welcomes Netanyahu for closed-door talks at the White House

US President Donald Trump is hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House for closed-door talks, which are expected to focus mainly on the next round of negotiations with Iran.
A White House official confirmed that the meeting in the Oval Office has begun.
It remains unclear whether journalists will be allowed to attend the conclusion of the meeting or whether it will remain completely closed to the media.
Netanyahu's motorcade was seen earlier by reporters approaching the White House from an adjacent road amid tight security.
On Tuesday, Netanyahu held a private meeting with senior US officials leading negotiations with Iran, hours after his arrival in Washington.
Among the participants in the discussions were special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and unofficial adviser.
They are key negotiators in the ongoing talks with Iran. Last week, they held the first round of negotiations with Iran in Oman.
Earlier today, Netanyahu became a member of Trump's Peace Council during a closed-door meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Blair House, the US president's official guest residence.
On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the Peace Board Charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The Peace Board was established as part of efforts to find a peaceful solution in the Gaza Strip. Washington has announced that other countries have since joined the initiative.
The first meeting is scheduled to be held in Washington and is expected to take place on February 19 at the leadership level.
It is not clear whether Netanyahu will attend. Fundraising for the reconstruction of Gaza is expected to be the central topic of the meeting. /AA/
