US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that he will buy a Tesla electric vehicle at full price, with a check, to show support for Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
In an extraordinary scene on the South Lawn of the White House, Trump was faced with a selection of Tesla vehicles to choose from, having written on Truth Social that he would "buy a new Tesla tomorrow morning as a sign of faith and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American."
The president's open and visible support for Musk and Tesla comes as the electric vehicle company's shares fell 15 percent, erasing all of their gains after Election Day.
Asked how he planned to pay for Tuesday's purchase, Trump said he would pay with a check.
"I do it the old-fashioned way - I write checks, I like checks. You know, I like a check more than this modern system, where suddenly there's money in your account, nobody understands. I like to sign a check," he said. Trump also said he would turn down a rebate if offered. /Telegraph/
