Trump threatens to block US-Canada bridge, Canadian PM reacts

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he spoke with Donald Trump about the US president's threat to block the opening of a new bridge connecting Detroit to Windsor, Ontario.
"The situation will be resolved," Carney told reporters in Ottawa today, writes cnn.
He added that "I explained to the president that Canada paid for the bridge first. Second, it is jointly owned by the state of Michigan and the Canadian government, and American steel and American workers were involved in its construction."
The prime minister also stressed that the two leaders "decided to have further discussions on these issues" in parallel with the ongoing trade negotiations between the US and Canada.
Recall that Trump has caused new tension in US-Canada relations by stating that he may prevent the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge - a bridge that cost an estimated $4.6-5.7 billion and was funded largely by Canada - if the United States does not receive compensation and "fair and respectful" treatment.
This statement comes in the context of a broader trade dispute between the two countries, which includes tariffs, trade negotiations with China and criticism of the use of non-American steel in major infrastructure projects. /Telegraph/
