TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew responded to comments from incoming US President Donald Trump regarding the Supreme Court's decision on Friday to ban the app in the US.

"I represent all of us at TikTok and our users across the country, and I want to thank President Trump for his commitment to working with us in finding a solution that will allow TikTok to remain available in the United States of America."

"This is a strong stand in favor of the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship," Chew said in a video posted on TikTok.

It appears that TikTok is counting on the 78-year-old's support to maintain the legality of the platform, which is owned by a Chinese company, in the United States.

Trump, on the other hand, seems to want to be seen as TikTok's savior, writing on Truth Social that he is in talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping to find a way to save the platform.

“We are grateful and pleased to have the support of a president who truly understands our platform, someone who has used TikTok to express his thoughts and views, connecting with the world and generating more than 60 billion views of his content in the process. Rest assured, we will do everything in our power to ensure the success of our platform. More information coming soon,” Chew added.

Otherwise, the Supreme Court ruled that the TikTok ban will be enforced. It currently remains unclear whether TikTok will disable the app for users in the US this Sunday, or whether the platform will wait to see if the Trump administration can reach a deal. /Telegraph/
