Trump says "US authority" will take over Gaza

US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that he believes the United States "will have Gaza," citing "American authority."

"We will have it, we will keep it, and we will make sure that there is peace, that there is no problem, no one will question it, and we will manage it in the most appropriate way," the American leader said today during a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The president said he would like Gaza to be developed into a profitable area with resorts and office buildings, CNN writes.

Asked by reporters in the Oval Office what would allow the United States to take control of the sovereign territory of Gaza, Trump replied that it would be "under American authority."

Also, on Tuesday, Trump dismissed the idea that the US could buy this land.

"We won't need to buy... we'll have Gaza, we don't need to buy, there's nothing to buy," he said.

"It's a war-torn area. We're going to take it, we're going to keep it, we're going to value it, we're going to develop it, and in the end a lot of jobs will be created for people in the Middle East. It's going to be for people in the Middle East, but I think it could become a diamond," the 78-year-old added.

Otherwise, the Jordanian king believes wholeheartedly that "despite all the challenges we have in the Middle East, I finally see someone who can lead us towards the end to bring stability, peace and prosperity to all of us in the region." /Telegraph/
