US President Donald Trump has said that the Russia-Ukraine war could be resolved in the near future.

He made these comments on Thursday during a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, according to an Ukrinform correspondent, reports Telegraph.

"I'm working hard to end that war [in Sudan]. We're very close to ending it. This will be the ninth if we don't get the Russia-Ukraine [war] first, but we're working hard to end that whole war. We're very close to ending it," Trump said, speaking about the conflict in Sudan.

Trump also stressed the importance of achieving peace through strength.

"Blessed are the peacemakers. […] But I think you can only have peace through strength. If you don't have strength, peace is very difficult. And we have strength," he said.

Trump listed the wars he believes he has helped end.

"Within a year, I have finished eight fierce wars, such as in Cambodia and Thailand, in Kosovo and Serbia, in Pakistan and India, in Israel and Iran, in Armenia and Azerbaijan," he said.

According to Trump, Russian leader Vladimir Putin was amazed at how he managed to resolve the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, something the Kremlin leader had allegedly been working on for ten years.

"I did. Two really good leaders. The only thing they knew was how to fight each other. They fought each other for many years. That's all they knew. And we resolved it very quickly," Trump added.

He also said that a historic peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda was signed in Washington a few months ago, which "provides the first path to peace to end an extremely violent 30-year conflict." /Telegrafi/
