US President Donald Trump has posted a screenshot of a message from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on the messaging app Signal.

In the message, the French president told Trump that he "didn't understand what he was doing in Greenland," the Telegraph reports.

He also suggested hosting a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday, and invited the US president to a special dinner in the French capital that day.

The text message is authentic, a source close to Macron confirmed, according to Reuters.

"This shows that the French president defends the same line both in public and in private," the source added. /Telegraph/
