Trump orders Voice of America staff sent home

Several Voice of America employees have been placed on paid leave, a day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order ordering the disbandment of seven federal agencies, including the one that oversees the Voice of America.

Multiple employees at Voice of America, an international media broadcaster that operates in more than 40 languages, have shared with Reuters an email placing them on administrative leave with full pay and benefits “until notified of changes.”

It is known that emails sent by a human resources executive at the American Agency for Global Media, the parent agency of Voice of America, instructed them not to enter their work premises and not to access internal systems, reports Telegraph.

It was not immediately clear how many employees had been placed on leave.

The US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which also funds Radio Free Europe, has not yet commented on the order.

But it is known that the move comes after Trump signed an order instructing USAGM and six other little-known agencies to reduce their operations to the minimum mandated by law, saying it was necessary to shrink bureaucracy. /Telegraph/
