For years, those of us who dared to warn that the dogma of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) was destroying, rather than supporting, Western values of meritocracy and equality were denounced as callous fanatics who should go along with the program. The “woke” culture warriors subjugated our institutions, instilled the doctrine of social justice in our companies, abolished academia – yet claimed to maintain moral superiority because they were creating a more “just” and “tolerant” society.
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, they insisted that we had never been more prejudiced. They imposed on us the imperative of “equality”: not equality of opportunity, but equality of outcome. And many bought into this narrative – [Prime Minister] Keir’s double-standards fell to his knees; privileged Columbia University students disguised themselves as Gazans; while the Los Angeles fire chief proclaimed her commitment to the DEI, as if anyone would care about a firefighter’s gender when his house was on fire.
Governments tried to legitimize diversity; businesses were either persuaded or tricked into believing that they had to embrace the “woke” agenda or risk bankruptcy. Public authorities in the UK began spending over £500 million a year of taxpayers’ money on workplaces linked to diversity and inclusion, while American companies were pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into “promoting racial equality.”
So forgive those of us on the “primitive” and low-status side of this debate if we feel a momentary sense of satisfaction when we hear the news that Donald Trump is banning this harmful ideology. In fact, this trend has already begun to reverse: for months, companies have been racing to scrap their diversity schemes. Last year, Harley-Davidson and Jack Daniel's abandoned their DEI objectives. Walmart-is closing funding for the Center for Racial Equality. Meta and Google have rejected DEI employees and programs. Even The New York Times published an article titled: “University of Michigan Doubles Commitment to DEI: What Went Wrong”? (To which a sharp-eyed X replied: "It doubled in DEI".)
And now, Donald Trump has issued an executive order directing government agencies to recognize only two genders. His administration will also review and possibly end “discriminatory programs,” such as environmental justice grants and diversity initiatives. He has already fired the director of the U.S. Coast Guard over concerns about her excessive focus on DEI policies. This return to meritocracy has sparked outrage from mainstream groups: The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest U.S. LGBTQI+ rights organization, has vowed not to be “bullied” — but it appears to be fighting back.
Good for Trump and good luck to all of America. But Britain, it seems, is a lost cause. The Labour Party cannot imagine amending the Equality Act 2010, which serves as the basis for the DEI; instead, it aims to take it further with a Racial Equality Act, in a futile and tautological attempt to strengthen our anti-discrimination laws.
The Conservatives may want to scrap some clauses, such as Section 149, which introduced the “public sector equality obligation”. However, recent experience shows that they lack the courage to take on this challenge. After all, it was the Conservatives themselves who introduced the gender pay gap report – a completely worthless piece of Maybot legislation [according to Prime Minister Theresa May], which briefly transformed EasyJet- into public enemy number one, until people realised that it was probably reasonable for female flight attendants to be paid less than male pilots. Would Reform [the party led by Nigel Farage] dare to take on the professional management class whose jobs rely heavily on DEI policies? They may make noise, but to challenge the hundreds of thousands of people who now work in the HR sector – one of the highest-paid professions in the country, kept alive by the many regulations that companies must follow – will take an iron will.
Part of the problem is that we now send too many not-so-bright people to college, where campuses are often filled with “woke” ideology and standards are extremely low. As a result, we are creating a new generation of young people who are qualified for professional jobs but who can’t find them. However, DEI fills the gap, providing good jobs for these “educated elites.” And they won’t let go of them easily.
While Donald Trump was unveiling his plan to make America even greater [MAGA], the British press reported on a National Health Service (NHS) cleaner who had taken 400 days of sick leave in four years, who was fired and claimed that her “complex mental health problems” constituted a disability, for which she managed to win a lawsuit of almost 50 thousand pounds. In the US, DEI is dying. Here it is Britain that is confusing itself. /Telegraph/
