Trump gets angry with Zelensky: Crimea was lost during Obama's time

US President Donald Trump has again increased pressure on his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, toaccepted a peace agreement with Russia.

Writing something like a lengthy description on his personal account on Truth Social, he claims that a deal is “very close” – but only after he puts pressure on the Ukrainian president and asks him to “do it.”

"We are very close to an agreement, but the man who 'has no cards to play' must now, finally, do it," he said.

"I look forward to helping Ukraine and Russia emerge from this complete and utter chaos, which would never have started if I were president!" the 78-year-old added.

However, the bulk of the message was dedicated to criticizing the Ukrainian leader over the statement he made to the Wall Street Journal that Ukraine would not agree to give up Crimea as part of peace negotiations.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky boasts on the cover of the Wall Street Journal that ‘Ukraine will not legally recognize the annexation of Crimea. There is nothing to talk about.’ This statement seriously damages peace negotiations with Russia, because Crimea was lost many years ago, while the US president was Barack Hussein Obama, and today it is not even a subject of discussion. No one is asking Zelensky to recognize Crimea as Russian territory, but if he wants to return it – why didn’t they defend it eleven years ago, when it was handed over to Russia without a fight?” Trump said.

Otherwise, Russia took control of Crimea in 2014, but saw war erupt in 2022 with the full invasion of Ukraine – something Trump mentions in the message on Truth Social.

But Ukraine has always maintained that Crimea is part of its territory, with most of the international community refusing to recognize Russia's illegal seizure of the territory. /Telegraph/
