Trump eases tariffs on cars

US President Donald Trump has signed executive orders that will ease the impact of tariffs on American car manufacturers.

This comes as the president travels to Michigan – the birthplace of Ford, General Motors and Stellantis – for a rally marking his first 100 days in office as president.

The auto industry has been engulfed in uncertainty since Trump announced 25 percent tariffs on cars and auto parts last month, writes skynews.

The new changes will allow automakers that have factories in the US to reduce the amount they pay in import taxes on foreign parts, using a formula linked to the number of cars they sell and their price.

“We just wanted to help [car manufacturers] get through this small, short-term transition,” the 78-year-old said.

"If they can't get the parts, you know, it's a very small percentage. If they can't get the parts, we didn't want to punish them," he added. /Telegraph/
