US President Donald Trump opened his meeting with oil company executives by talking, once again, about the capture of Nicolas Maduro, the Venezuelan leader, on January 3.

He then moves on to the focus of the meeting, the South American country's oil industry, reports skynews.

"We will discuss how these major American companies can help quickly rebuild Venezuela's devastated oil industry and bring millions of barrels of oil production to the benefit of the United States, the people of Venezuela, and the entire world," the 79-year-old declared.

The American leader also claims that the US received $4 billion in oil from Venezuela yesterday - 30 million barrels. This money, he says, will go mostly to the US and some to Venezuela.

Continuing his statements, Trump described how he is putting the US first in his efforts regarding Venezuelan oil.

He claims that the US "built that whole industry," referring to the South American country's oil industry, and that it now owes it, adding that "if you look at it, we're taking back what was taken from us. They took our oil industry."

Trump also claims that Venezuela, which recently had its leader removed, has agreed that the US can begin "immediately" refining and selling up to 50 million barrels of Venezuelan crude oil, "which will continue indefinitely."

It is not clear what time period this agreement was agreed upon for. /Telegraph/
