US President Donald Trump has returned attention to Greenland, describing the territory as a strategic national security issue.

Asked how much money he would offer Denmark for the island, Trump said, "I'm not talking about money yet, but I can talk about that."

Instead, he issued a strong warning, reports skynews.

"Right now, we're going to do something about Greenland, even if they don't want it, because if we don't, Russia or China will take Greenland, and we won't have Russia or China as neighbors. I would like to make a deal the easy way. But if we don't, we'll do it the hard way," the 79-year-old said.

Otherwise, Denmark has made it clear that Greenland is not for sale and that they will defend it at all costs.
