Trump's people, Ukrainians and representatives of three European powers met in Paris - 'some details' of the meeting revealed

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump's international envoy, held high-level talks with Ukrainian and European officials in Paris at a meeting on Thursday aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defenses against Russia's relentless invasion.

According to foreign media, the Telegraph reports, Ukrainian and American officials had an "excellent exchange" with their British, French and German counterparts, an Elysee source said after the talks, with the meetings in Paris offering "a very strong strategic opportunity."

Ukraine and the three European countries stressed their mutual support for Trump's efforts to bring a quick end to the war, according to the source, CNN reports.

More meetings will take place next week in London in the same format, the source added.

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce did not say whether Rubio would participate in the discussions.

French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that Thursday's talks marked "a day of diplomatic mobilization," in a social media post.

"Today, we engaged in a positive and constructive discussion on how to achieve a ceasefire and a comprehensive and lasting peace," Macron said.

Zelensky thanked Macron for his leadership and for the work in Paris by representatives of the participating countries, in a post on social media.

"It is important for us to listen to each other, refine and clarify our positions, and work for the sake of the real security of Ukraine and our entire Europe," he said.

While Donald Trump told reporters on Thursday that the United States will "hear" from Russia "this week" on the US proposal for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

For Ukraine's European allies, the summit offered a chance to assess the Trump administration's thinking on the war in Ukraine. /Telegraph/
