Three Bulgarian citizens detained, suspected of stealing Macedonian folk costumes

On 09.12.2025 at 11:50 on "Veljko Vlahovic" street in Demir Hisar, police officers from the Demir Hisar DPB detained AK (44), KK (48) and VG (50), all from the Republic of Bulgaria, on suspicion of having committed the criminal offenses "theft" under Article 235 and "export of goods under temporary protection or cultural heritage or natural rarities abroad" under Article 266 of the Criminal Code.
AK and KK were found in a "Volkswagen Golf" passenger vehicle with Bulgarian national license plates, while VG was found in a "Peugeot Boxer" van with Bulgarian national license plates, and in their possession were found items and parts of folk costumes, the origin of which could not be verified.
The items were examined by an ethnologist from the Monastery Museum and it was determined that they are parts of Macedonian folk costumes that represent cultural heritage and are prohibited from being traded or sold without their permission.
