"This is the last time," Ancelotti threatens La Liga after victory over Villarreal

Real Madrid secured a very important victory on Saturday, managing to come back from a disadvantage to defeat Villarreal 2-1 at 'La Cerámica'.

This result sends them top of La Liga for the time being, although they could be overtaken by Barcelona if they win against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

After the match, Carlo Ancelotti expressed great pride in his team's performance, especially considering the maximum effort just three days earlier against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League.

"The team managed to cope with the difficult moment, which was the first minutes of both halves. Then, little by little, we started to keep the ball better and looked for opportunities."

"Two goals came from Mbappé, and some counterattacks that could have been managed better in the second half."

"I'm very proud. It was a tricky match, because of everything that happened, because of the hours of rest and because of the strength of the opponent, who is a good team, but we got tired physically."

"The team finished exhausted, it's completely normal. It's a victory that says a lot about this team and the resources that this team has," Ancelotti initially said.

The Italian coach was very unhappy with the fact that the match against Villarreal was played on Saturday, as it meant his team had less than 72 hours between the two matches.

He made it clear to La Liga that this cannot happen again.

"The explanation is that this team has something special, character, dedication, but they can't always do it, sometimes I even get angry with them."

"We must thank these players for their extraordinary efforts since January 3rd. Even more so today. This is the last time we will play with less than 72 hours of rest."

"We will never do it again. We have asked La Liga twice to change the schedule and nothing has happened. This is the last time we play a match without a 72-hour break. We will not play if it happens again," he concluded.Telegraph/
