They went to celebrate in the north with red and black flags, Serbs threw stones at them - police provide details

On the evening of February 17, 12 people, 10 of whom are minors, were detained by the Kosovo Police after it is suspected that they entered the city of North Mitrovica in vehicles decorated with national symbols.

They have been stopped not only because of the symbols, but also for violating traffic rules, such as lacking the necessary documents and exceeding the allowed number of passengers in vehicles.

The Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police in North Mitrovica, Veton Elshani, announced that the detained persons ended up in a tense situation when Serbian citizens attacked them with stones.

"12 people, 10 of them minors, have been detained after allegedly entering North Mitrovica with Albanian flags. Later, some Serbs attacked them with stones. We have detained two vehicles, one of which was transporting five minors, while the other was carrying seven people. Currently, there are no charges for using the flags, but traffic violations are being dealt with, such as lack of a driver's license and exceeding the vehicle's capacity," Elshani said.

He also emphasized that measures have been taken throughout the day to prevent provocations in the northern part of the city, especially on this day when the anniversary of Kosovo's Independence is celebrated.

"There is no intervention for the use of flags, but we are dealing with traffic violations. We are clarifying the situations that occurred and are handling the case carefully, considering that most of the detainees are minors," he added.

At the same time, Serbian politician Aleksandar Arsenijevic has shared on the social network Facebook, in the 'Story' option, a video showing vehicles with Albanian flags passing through one of the streets of North Mitrovica.
