"They took my daughter away smiling, they brought her back dead", the parent of the 3-year-old who died at UCCK accuses the doctors

A three-year-old girl has died after undergoing surgery at the Orthopedics Clinic at the University College of Kosovo, last week. The parents of the deceased have raised suspicions of negligence during the surgery and have reported the case to the justice authorities. The Basic Prosecution has confirmed the start of investigations, describing the case as "unconscious medical treatment".
The days of being a leader are over and the Shala family from Poneshi, Gjilan, is now waiting for comfort from law enforcement agencies.
Fidon and Albina Shala lost their 3-year-old daughter, Fidoena, after a surgical intervention at the Orthopedics Clinic at UCCK, on February 6 of this year.
The girl was diagnosed at birth with a foot anomaly, turned inward or bent downward.
And on February 4th, they hospitalized him, to operate on him the next day.
"He gave us the information that the operation went well, successfully, and we were waiting for the girl to wake up. I wandered the corridors, I waited, I lit a cigarette, it was 12:00, there was no information. It was 14:00, there was no information, I approached the door, the security didn't let me in. At 14:30 the anesthesiologist came out and Dafina Bytyqi Shabani said the girl's condition had worsened, she had a problem with breathing. He asked me if there was a problem? No, there never was. They took the girl to have fun, to play with, and then turned her into a corpse," Fidon Shala - the father of the now deceased three-year-old, told TV Dukagjinin.
Both believe that the medical staff was negligent in the operation.
"The same anesthesiologist in 2023, took the boy under anesthesia at 8:00, the next day he came out. They dressed him alone, they were stressed, he left my son in a coma for 15 hours, the same one operated on my daughter. I asked for his name, they didn't give it to me... I am convinced that my daughter died in the operation, they didn't even let us see when she came out, they told us that we have no right. I swear to you, they cut it off, they don't, in the four children that I have and the one that I am eating and, if they don't take responsibility before the law and God, I will give it to them before me, I don't have children to put down. I begged for help because I couldn't do it, I lived on wood and in the end they took the girl in a corpse... My wife told me to go to France, well, we had her alive. I had hopes of living in this country, now they are over... They cut it off for someone "You know, she lives. Someone's hand lives. Mine was on the soles of her feet, she had no cardiac or respiratory problems," said Fidon Shala, the father of the three-year-old.
The television has contacted Dr. Dafina Bytyqi Shabani, who was assigned to the operation and who followed the deceased's checkups.
"I wouldn't want to give any statement without the forensic report," she said briefly.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Orthopedics Clinic, Xhavit Gashi, has requested that answers be sought through the UCCK Media Office.
"The cause is of great interest to us, it has honestly worried us," he said.
But, the Police and the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina have confirmed to Dukagjin that investigations have already begun.
"Regarding your question, we inform you that after receiving information about the death of a three-year-old child, the acting Prosecutor of the General Department of this prosecution has undertaken the necessary investigative actions in order to clarify the case. On the same day, on 06.02.2026, an autopsy order was issued. The Police have also been authorized to initially interview the doctors who treated/operated on the patient as witnesses. The Police have been authorized to obtain the patient's history as there may be suspicions of the criminal offense "Unreasonable medical treatment" under Article 254 of the Criminal Code. Since we are in the initial phase of the investigation and are awaiting the autopsy report, we cannot provide any other information regarding the case," said Kaltrina Shala - spokesperson for the Basic Prosecution - Pristina.
The Institute of Forensic Medicine has confirmed that the autopsy report is being finalized, without giving any deadline for its results, since 'specialized examination procedures take time'.
"We inform you that the case is currently under investigation and, therefore, the information that can be provided at this stage is limited. We can confirm that the forensic autopsy was performed on February 7 at the IML, in accordance with the applicable professional procedures and standards. During the examination, relevant biological samples were taken, which will be subjected to additional laboratory analyses and specialized examinations. These procedures require the necessary time for professional processing and evaluation, in order to provide a complete report. The final autopsy report will be prepared and submitted to the prosecutor of the case once all necessary examinations are completed. Until then, we, as the IML, cannot provide additional details," said Agron Thaçi, Director of the Laboratory Department at the Institute of Forensic Medicine.
