"They thought it was gold", serious theft at Brusi church in Lipjan

Religious items were stolen from the Albanian Catholic church in Brus, Lipjan, on Tuesday morning.
So far, the people who committed this theft have not been identified, since there are no cameras in this church or around it, KosovaPress reports.
The priest of this Catholic church, Don Kolë Zefi, told KosovaPress when this incident occurred and what was stolen.
"The incident happened on Tuesday before dawn, somewhere around 3 o'clock, they demolished the church and stole this here, of course they thought it was gold and there in the other room, they didn't touch anything else... I don't know approximately how much it was, but these cost, how many euros, how many thousand, I don't know," he said.
He added that this is the first time that religious items have been stolen from inside this church.
This Albanian Catholic church dates back 90 years.
"It naturally worried me that this is the first time this has happened in this church, it has never happened before but it is happening in many churches... I don't suspect anyone, the police have it in their hands, we found the coffin here in front of the door and it is in the direction of Janjevës," he adds.
The Commander of the Lipjan Police Station, Brahim Shatrolli, said that the investigation and forensics unit is investigating this case. However, no persons have yet been identified as suspects in the theft.
"Around 09:10 (yesterday) a case was reported in the Catholic church in the village of Brus that some unidentified persons had stolen some equipment used for religious rites there. The Kosovo Police, specifically the police station in Lipjan, immediately responded to the case with the investigation unit and the forensic unit, who have handled the case in question and in cooperation with the responsible persons of the Catholic church, the priest of the church and a responsible person who noticed the lack of the equipment in question met there and handled the case in question. These are devices that are not large in size and that the person could have been a pedestrian by chance there. According to information, the church was not locked, which is why the suspects or the suspect without causing any damage penetrated, entered and left because it was not locked with a key," announced Shatrolli.
This theft was considered serious considering that it was committed in a religious facility, as stipulated by Kosovo laws.
