Qalaj: The large presence of the Police in the north is the "main factor" of crime in Pristina

PDK deputy, Rashit Qalaj, has stated that one of the main factors of the increase in crime in Pristina is the concentration of the Kosovo Police in the north of the country. He has requested a greater and stricter Police presence in Pristina, especially after a recent incident where two people were killed

One of the main factors of the increase in crime in the capital is the presence and concentration of the Kosovo Police in the north of the country.

This is what the deputy of the PDK, Rashit Qalaj, has stated, who demands a greater and stricter presence of the Police in Pristina - after the last event, where two people were killed as a result of a shooting incident in the middle two groups in Kolovica.

"When we talk about security in Kosovo, all the people are thinking about the north, while in Pristina there is not a day that someone is not killed or injured. And I think it is unacceptable that in Pristina we do not have a greater presence in different locations of the Police, of its elite units. Only patrols are not enough, but it is enough for the Police to have operational plans and a quick response site and investigative units so that these events do not happen to us", said Qalaj on RTV Dukagjini.

Qalaj has also requested tougher punishments from the courts for recidivists.

"Prishtina has always had groups, there have always been individuals. They have been treated quite well, and have been convicted in the courts. Then they serve their sentence and are released and then engage in criminal activity. And I think that only a greater police presence and a rapid response will reduce it. I think that the Police but also the Prosecutor's Office and the Courts, that when you have a person who has committed several criminal offenses and the punishment should be greater.

It is one of the main factors (the large presence of the Police in the north). But also how the general director views these acts. It depends on him and the staff how they forget an operational plan", added Qalaj.
