Granit Xhaka's transfer to Bayer Leverkusen was close to failure until one person intervened
The well-known German newspaper "Kicker" has revealed that Bayer Leverkusen was close to losing the services of Granit Xhaka in the summer of 2023.
The deal almost fell through due to financial disputes, but managing director Simon Rolfes was instrumental in the midfielder's transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.
Then, Granit Xhaka joined Bayer Leverkusen for 15 million euros from Arsenal and became a leader at the German club.
His impact on the club's huge success in the first year was remarkable, as Bayer Leverkusen dominated German football, winning the league title and the German Cup.
They also went to the final of the Europa League where they lost to Atalanta, which was the only one that year.
The Kosovar midfielder has not missed a single minute in the Bundesliga this season, while he is still one of Bayer Leverkusen's most important players.
He has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2028. /Telegraph/
