The special issue comes out with an explanation for the rejection of Thaçi's request to visit his father in the hospital

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague have issued a clarification regarding the rejection of Hashim Thaçi's request to visit his father, Haxhi Thaçi, who is being treated in a clinic in the capital due to poor health.

According to the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, at the time the request was made, the circumstances of Thaçi's father were different from those currently reported in the media.

“The legal framework of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers enables detained persons to make requests for detention visits in Kosovo to the competent Panel or Panels of judges, when there are compelling humanitarian reasons. The relevant judges decide on each such request, based on the information provided at the time the request is made. At the time when Mr. Thaçi’s requests were made on 28 January, almost two weeks ago, as reflected in the requests, the circumstances of Mr. Thaçi’s father were different from those reported in the media today,” the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague said in a response to RTK.

Hashim Thaçi has been in custody in The Hague for more than four years, facing trial. The rejection of his request was announced by his defense lawyer, Luka Misetic, according to whom, although the defense team had requested a short and supervised release, the Special Prosecutor's Office has rejected this request.

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers have announced that to date, they have facilitated 12 detention visits in Kosovo for detainees on compelling humanitarian grounds, including two visits by Hashim Thaçi.
