A traditional party organized by Serbs for the New Year in Zagreb, Croatia, where Serbian singer Snezhana Đurišić performed, has sparked a lot of reactions in Croatia due to a song about Kosovo.

Parts of this song were immediately distributed on the front pages of Serbian tabloids. "Wherever I go, I come back to you again. Who can steal Kosovo from my soul," are parts of Vidovdan's song, which he has now dedicated to the singer Đurišić.

In addition to receiving media attention, the Serbian National Council is now facing a lawsuit from the Vukovar-Srijem district councilor, Nikola Kajkic. “During that evening, performers from Serbia and musicians from Serbia performed various songs that had elements and characteristics of the misdemeanor and criminal offense of inciting hatred and discord on national and religious grounds,” he said, Koha.net reports.

Singer Djurisic, when asked about this, said that it was well received by the public, adding that she is the one who should file a lawsuit against Kajkici "for the harsh words."

"Because I sang my song that doesn't offend anyone. And whoever calls him a defender, let him defend himself and cleanse his soul of the hatred he has towards people," she told RTL Danas.

The "Serbian Evening", traditionally organized by the Serbian National Council in Croatia, is one of the largest gatherings of the Serbian community in Croatia and is partially funded with state money.

Kosovo's ambassador to Croatia, Martin Berishaj, was also asked about the issue. He said that Kosovo and Croatia have excellent relations that cannot be damaged by such events. "It is irrelevant to comment on a song that was sung in a closed space in front of a society that knows what they think about Kosovo," he said.
