The Kosovo Assembly suspended the session to elect the new president on Thursday, as only 66 deputies were present in the hall, far fewer than the number needed to reach a quorum.

Speaker of Parliament Albulena Haxhiu has announced the suspension of the session, emphasizing that voting will continue in the future only when the necessary conditions are met.

"In this case, there is no quorum to continue with the vote. Several times during the session I called on the absent deputies to come and be present in accordance with the Constitution and the judgments of the Constitutional Court. The situation is that they are not present. Consequently, we do not have 2/3 of the deputies," said Haxhiu.

At least 80 votes are required to elect the president in the first ballot, a quorum that was not reached today.

The interruption of the session highlights the difficulties in reaching consensus among political parties on the head of state and brings the country closer to new elections in the event of the failure of the process.
