The sequel to the film “Quo Vadis, Aida?” was listed among the 10 most prestigious projects in development at the Cannes Film Festival

Director Jasmila Zbanic's new project, "Quo Vadis, Aida? - the missing part", has been included among 10 carefully selected projects from around the world that will be presented as part of the prestigious Investors Circle program at the Marché du Film, part of the Cannes Film Festival.

Investors Circle gathers the most important new projects by world-renowned authors, and the inclusion of the project “Quo Vadis, Aida – the missing part” among them confirms its artistic, social and international significance.

The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most influential and important film festivals in the world, and participation in its industry programs opens the door to global investors, distribution and international visibility.

More information about the selection is available on the official Marché du Film website.

The film “Quo Vadis, Aida? – The Missing Piece” has already secured strong international support through the participation of the most important European film funds, including the Austrian Film Institute, the Vienna Film Fund, the Swedish Film Institute, the Polish Film Institute, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Film Väst from Sweden and the French CNC – Aide aux cinémas du monde, as well as partnerships with the major European television companies ARTE/ZDF, ORF, Canal+ and TRT. The project also has the support of the global sales agent Indie Sales from France.

The previous film “Quo Vadis, Aida?” was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, won more than 50 international awards and was named Best European Film, while Jasmila Žbanić was recognized as Best European Director and Jasna Đuričić as Best European Actress.

Despite this success and the extraordinary importance of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide this year, the realization of the film's sequel faces serious obstacles in Bosnia and Herzegovina in achieving the necessary 20 percent of financing from domestic sources.

The work of the BiH Film Foundation, a key institution for supporting domestic cinema, has been blocked for months, which has brought the domestic film industry to a complete standstill. At the same time, the funds planned through the tax incentive program in the Sarajevo Canton, which were extremely important for the completion of the film's financial construction, were put into question due to institutional instability and administrative obstacles. In these circumstances, without the systematic support of the state and local authorities, despite all the international recognition and significant funds already secured, the shooting of the film planned for this year becomes doubtful.

"We continue to fight for the film to be made with dignity, precision and the highest artistic standards that this type of subject deserves. Our obligation to the victims and survivors, as well as to future generations who need to hear the truth about what happened, remains our most important motivation," said the production house Deblokada. /Telegraph/
