The 'hunt' for Wikipedia continues

Prosecutor Ed Martin claims that Wikipedia is being manipulated by "foreign actors."

The Trump administration continues its efforts regarding free access to information – this time targeting Wikipedia.

Earlier this week, Ed Martin, the acting US Attorney General for the District of Columbia and a Trump appointee, sent a letter to the Wikimedia Foundation accusing it of 'spreading propaganda' and threatening to end its non-profit status, Gizmodo reports.

In a letter first published by The Free Press, Martin claims that Wikipedia allows manipulation of information by foreign actors, rewriting historical events and biographical data of American leaders, thereby threatening US national security.

He also stated that the majority of the Foundation's board members are not US citizens, which he claims "undermines the interests of American taxpayers."

The Wikimedia Foundation must respond to this request and provide the requested documentation by May 15, reports the Telegraph.

This is not the first time Martin has used an official government memo to attack organizations that disagree with administration policy.

He recently sent similar letters to medical journals such as CHEST Journal and The New England Journal of Medicine, accusing them of 'bias' for allegedly not publishing enough opposing scientific opinions.

Given that Elon Musk, who is actively supported by the Trump administration, has often attacked Wikipedia, calling it 'Wokepedia' and accusing it of spreading 'legacy media propaganda', this series of events is not surprising.

Many free speech organizations have already condemned Martin's threats as an attempt to intimidate and suppress criticism of the administration. /Telegraph/
