CEC: Recount to conclude next week, then final results

The Central Election Commission has announced that the process of a full recount of all polling stations, 2,557 of them, is planned to be completed next week.
The completion of this process, launched on January 13, according to CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi, would pave the way for the CEC to announce the final results of the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo, which were held on December 28, 2025.
"The Central Election Commission is making every effort to conclude the recount of all remaining polling stations as soon as possible, in order to proceed with the announcement of the final results of the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo. The CEC plans to conclude the recount process of all polling stations during the coming week," said Elezi.
He further explained that although the recount process removes dilemmas regarding the results and may reduce the need for complaints, this is a right of political entities and candidates, so the CEC will await their submission and review before concluding the entire election process.
"After the recount is completed, the CEC will announce the final election results. As provided for in the Law on General Elections, political entities and candidates will be able to submit their complaints to the ECAP and, eventually, the process may continue up to the Supreme Court. Of course, the recount process removes dilemmas regarding the results and this may reduce the need for complaints, but the CEC must wait for the deadline for their submission and review before proceeding with the certification of the election results and at the same time with the conclusion of the electoral process," he added.
Next week, on January 28, it will be one month since Election Day when the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo voted in early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo.
The announcement of the results was scheduled to take place by January 19, however, the CEC decided to conduct a recount after a verification conducted at 33 polling stations, which resulted in the candidates' votes counted at the Municipal Counting Centers not accurately reflecting the votes on the ballots.
According to the CEC, since we are dealing with a process that includes all polling stations, the result that will be valid in announcing the final results will be the one that will emerge from the recount process and not from the counting at the Municipal Counting Centers. /kp/
