Rebel leader speaks at a mosque in Damascus, says victory belongs to the entire Syrian nation

Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, who led the rebel offensive that toppled Bashar al-Assad's regime, spoke at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

In his first public appearance since fighters entered the outskirts of Damascus, he told supporters that the rebel victory was "for the whole nation" and that Assad had made Syria "a farm for Iran's greed".

"The liberation happened despite the nose of that tyrant," he said of Assad.

He added that Syria will "completely recover" from the effects of the war.

"The future is ours," he told supporters. /Telegraph/
