Murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja while on duty, Elvis Shkambi and his uncle risk life imprisonment

Elvis and Gjon Shkambi risk being sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja after the Tirana Prosecution Office has prosecuted them for the criminal offense of 'Murder of public officials', they are also charged with the remaining charges of 'Murder in other qualifying circumstances' in the attempted murder of Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj, as well as illegal possession of weapons.
According to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, Judge Astrit Kalaja was shot to death by Elvis Shkambi as soon as he read the verdict in the case he was judging between the Kurtaj family and a bailiff.
After knocking the judge to the ground with the gun he was carrying in his belt, Elvis Shkambi also shot at Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj, who were urgently leaving the courtroom, leaving them wounded.
Immediately afterwards, the suspected perpetrator handed over the pistol to the court security officer and, after going out into the courtyard, was caught red-handed by the services of Police Station No. 1, Tirana.
The Tirana Prosecution Office has also filed a murder charge against Gjon Shkambi. According to it, although Gjon Shkambi apparently did not commit any concrete action, he is suspected of being guilty because he did not take any action to stop his nephew's criminal actions and even remained calm when he killed the judge and injured the opposing party in the process, which creates reasonable suspicion that he was aware of his nephew's plan and actions.
According to the prosecution, Gjon Shkambi played the role of the instigator of the attempted murder of Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj by his nephew, based on a series of actions committed by Gjon Shkambi in previous hearings before the verdict was issued, but also in television appearances or in contacts he had with residents who he claimed had occupied his property.
Court security officer Banush Koxhaj is also in trouble with the law, as he negligently failed to take into account the detector light when Elvis Shkambi passed by and did not perform a physical search of him.
From the administration and preliminary review of the video footage stored on the Court's NVR server, it appears that the perpetrator appeared in court at 13:42 p.m. on Monday in the public waiting room.
When Gjon and Elvis Skambi passed the detector, he gave a signal, but Banush Koxhaj remained seated in the chair and did not take any action to physically search Elvis Skambi and his uncle and register them in the protocol book, which must record all persons entering and leaving the court premises.
For this violation, he is accused by the prosecution of abuse of office. The three arrested will appear in court on Thursday morning where they will be informed of the security measures.
