The Municipality of Malisheva marks the 17th anniversary of Kosovo's Independence
Official activities to mark February 17 - Kosovo Independence Day were held today in the Municipality of Malisheva. These activities, which began a few days ago under the auspices of the Mayor, Ekrem Kastrati, culminated with a solemn meeting of the Municipal Assembly and a tribute in honor of the nation's martyrs.
In addition to the members of the Assembly, the solemn meeting was also attended by the families of the martyrs and numerous citizens. Speeches were delivered by the Mayor of the Municipality, Ekrem Kastrati, the Speaker of the Assembly, Argjend Thaçi, and the representative of the associations that emerged from the KLA war, Feriz Krasniqi.
In his speech, President Kastrati highly praised the sacrifice of the Albanian people for freedom, which culminated in the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army and was crowned with the declaration of independence on February 17, 2008. He emphasized that the martyrs are the most deserving of this achievement and added that the commitment to the realization of national aspirations, including membership in the EU and NATO, will continue.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Argjend Thaçi, spoke about the sacrifice of entire generations for freedom, highlighting the contribution of the Kosovo Liberation Army and all those who gave their lives for independence. He emphasized that Kosovo's path towards Euro-Atlantic integration remains the main goal.
On behalf of the KLA OVL in Malisheva, Feriz Krasniqi congratulated the Albanian people on Independence Day and recalled the continuous efforts for freedom, which culminated in the KLA war.
All speakers once again expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that, for several years now, Independence Day is being celebrated without the presence of the war leaders, who are unjustly being held in The Hague.
After the solemn meeting, homages and honors continued at the martyrs' cemeteries in Malisheva, Klecka and at the memorial complex in Prekaz.
