The European Leaders' Summit, one of the most important political events of the year for the region, is being held in Tirana. But apart from the official discussions, a special moment has attracted the attention of citizens and the media.
A video shared on social media shows German Chancellor Friedrich Merz appearing surprised upon learning that Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has won his fourth term, reports Telegrafi.
Rama confirms to the Chancellor that he has won a fourth term, as they continue to talk, smiling at each other.
His reaction was commented on social media. While some citizens congratulated Rama for his stability in power and the support he gained in the elections, others took the opportunity to criticize him.
Otherwise, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, has also stated that the victory of Edi Rama and the Socialist Party in the May 11 elections in Albania was completely unexpected for her.
"I would like to congratulate Edin on his completely unexpected re-election as head of the Albanian government. I am pleased that Europe will be able to rely on his perseverance and determination," Meloni said in her speech at the European Political Community Summit, drawing laughter from those present.
The welcome ceremony at the Summit opened with various artistic performances, promoting Albanian national tradition and culture.
At the end of the introductory video, made with artificial intelligence, 47 European leaders portrayed as children appeared, saying: "Welcome to Albania." /Telegrafi/
