Footage of explosion at shopping mall in Taiwan kills five, injures eight

At least five people have died and eight others were injured in a suspected gas leak on the top floor of a shopping mall in central Taiwan.

The explosion occurred in the cafeteria section on the 12th floor of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi shopping mall in Taichung city, the Telegraph reports.

Two people who lost their lives were visiting the tourist city of Macau, police have announced - who stressed that it was a family of seven. The third member of this family was seriously injured.

The explosion was so powerful that it threw four people out of the building's windows. Security cameras captured the moment the 12-story building exploded.

Emergency teams blocked off the entire area in an attempt to contain the fire and evacuate the injured, who remained inside the building. /Telegraph/
