The moment a tourist is attacked by an angry mob after climbing an ancient pyramid despite it being forbidden

A tourist has been branded an idiot after climbing an ancient pyramid, before being beaten by an angry mob for defying a ban.

Teresa Arroyo, who was visiting the archaeological site with her son, filmed the man, believed to be a 38-year-old German tourist, as he climbed El Castillo, at Chichen Itza in Mexico.

Other tourists were filming it and screaming.

A security guard also climbed the pyramid and tried to chase the unruly visitor.

After the man climbed close to the top and reached flat ground, he disappeared from view, reports the Telegraph.

Two officials ran around the pyramid, hoping to catch him.

It is reported that the crowd that had witnessed the scenes was angered by the event as climbing the pyramid is prohibited.

Personnel from the National Institute of Anthropology and History and the National Guard removed the man from the archaeological site.

As they dragged him out of the area, dozens of tourists rushed the man and some even hit him.

Otherwise, since 2008, climbing the pyramid has been prohibited and this measure aims to preserve the structure against wear and tear caused by tourism. /Telegraph/
