This is the moment a female scuba diver was attacked and bitten on the leg by a shark while diving in Brazil.

The terrifying footage shows several sharks swimming around Tayane Dalazen, before one of them lunges at her and grabs her leg.

The 36-year-old can be seen swaying, in a desperate attempt to get away from the predator that had begun to drag her down to the seabed, the Telegraph reports.

Speaking after the attack, in Brazil's Fernando de Noronha archipelago, Dalazen said he immediately realised what had happened and explained how the animal grabbed his leg.

"I knew I had been bitten. I felt it shaking me by the leg. The guide had to hit it to let me go," she said.

Dalazen was with two friends and accompanied by a tour guide when the attack occurred.

After coming out of the water, she was helped by the guide and divers who were on a nearby boat before receiving first aid from her dermatologist friend, who cleaned her wound.

The 36-year-old was then taken to hospital, where she received treatment and was later released.

Photos subsequently shared show the damage, which Dalazen claimed was not very deep.

However, the horrific photos show multiple puncture wounds to her leg from the shark's teeth. /Telegraph/
