The recent winter transfer window highlighted the huge differences between leagues. The Premier League continues to dominate the market, while La Liga ranks only eighth among the leagues that spent the most in January.

According to the specialized site provides, the winter transfer window clearly demonstrated the economic power of the big leagues. England leads convincingly, Italy and Brazil follow, while Spain remains a negative surprise with low spending.

The Premier League once again confirmed its status as the richest league in the world, spending a whopping €453,17 million in the winter transfer window. English clubs continue to invest aggressively, unfettered by competition or financial regulations.

Following England is Serie A, with 243,59 million euros, showing a strong return of Italian clubs to the market. Immediately behind it comes the Campeonato Brasileiro, which with 201,55 million euros proves that Brazil is becoming increasingly influential in financial terms.

In fourth place is MLS with 144,28 million euros in spending, while Ligue 1 closes the top five with 105,10 million euros. The Bundesliga, unlike in previous years, remains more reserved with 98,95 million euros in spending.

The biggest negative surprise is La Liga, which ranks only eighth with 75,50 million euros in spending, behind the Saudi Pro League (93,08 million euros) and ahead of the Turkish Super League with 70,52 million euros and the Portuguese Super League with 59,48 million euros.

These figures confirm a new reality in global football: economic power is increasingly shifting, while some of the traditional leagues are losing ground in the battle of the 'merkat'. /Telegraph/
