The longest snake ever recorded is measured

A female giant python (Malayopython reticulatus) discovered in the Maros region of Sulawesi, Indonesia, in late 2025 is believed to be the longest wild snake ever officially measured, with initial evidence from GWR confirming a length of 7.22 m from head to tip of tail.
This means that if placed across a standard FIFA goal, this incredible python would take up practically the entire width from pillar to post. On the other hand, it is roughly the length of six shopping carts lined up.
Under anesthesia, when the snakes' bodies are fully relaxed, it can be at least 10% longer - so in reality its true length is probably closer to 7.9m, the Telegraph reports.

But because of the inherent risks of anesthesia, GWR believes that animals should only be "put under" for safety reasons or necessary medical procedures, so this has not been put to the test.
The magnificent snake, which is now in the care of local environmentalist Budi Purwanto, was spotted by Diaz Nugraha - a wildlife guide, rescuer and licensed snake handler from Kalimantan, Borneo, along with Radu Frentiu - an explorer and natural history photographer who has resided in Bali for two decades.

In addition to measuring with a tape measure, the python was also weighed and found to weigh 96.5 kg, which is similar to an adult giant panda! This was done on scales usually reserved for weighing bags of rice.
It is worth noting that she had not recently eaten a large meal, after which she would undoubtedly have exceeded the 100 kg mark. /Telegraph/
